Mama Mulu, locally known as Mulu Ashenda, was killed in Mekelle on November 28, 2020, when the Ethiopian forces struck their family home near St. Gabriel Church, close to the Martyrs Monument, using heavy weaponry. The attack destroyed the house. Her elder daughter, who witnessed the strike, confirmed that heavy weapons hit the residence. Mama Mulu died instantly, and her youngest daughter was severely injured and spent six months in the hospital recovering from her wounds.
